A container just for cardboard
Corrugated cardboard is one of the most common recyclable materials, and businesses that receive frequent shipments can generate it in large volumes. Retail stores after a reset, warehouses after a delivery surge, restaurants with heavy supply orders, and households unpacking after a move all end up with more boxes than regular bins can hold.
A cardboard recycling dumpster in Lavallette, NJ keeps that material in its own container, which helps it stay clean and avoids filling a general debris box with bulky, light boxes.
What makes cardboard acceptable
Recycling facilities generally want clean, dry, corrugated cardboard. Boxes contaminated with food, grease, or liquids may be rejected. Waxed cardboard, often used for produce and seafood, is frequently not accepted with standard cardboard. Plastic wrap, foam packing material, and pallets should be removed before loading.
Tape and shipping labels are usually a smaller concern, but acceptance rules vary. We confirm the requirements for your load before delivery.
Cardboard loading rules
- Flatten every box
- Remove plastic wrap and foam
- Keep out food-soiled and waxed boxes
- Cover to keep loads dry
- Post signs so others load correctly
Flatten and keep it dry
Unflattened boxes waste most of a container's volume. Break down every box and stack flat pieces neatly. Rain can soak cardboard, making it heavier and potentially unacceptable for recycling, so cover the container with a tarp when possible or stage flattened cardboard indoors until you are ready to load.
Businesses and households alike
Retailers and warehouses often use cardboard containers during seasonal peaks and inventory changes. Offices and households moving to a new location may use one for the flood of boxes after unpacking. Pairing a cardboard container with a general debris container keeps both streams organized, with clear signs so everyone knows which is which.
